Main 1-2 Subwatershed
Advisory Group

The Rouge River watershed includes the Upper, Lower, Middle and Main branches and drains an area of 466 square miles. The Main Branch of the Rouge River flows through the Main 1-2 subwatershed and has a drainage area of 102.8 square miles. This subwatershed includes all or portions of Auburn Hills, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Detroit, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Franklin, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Orchard Lake, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Southfield, Southfield Township, Troy and West Bloomfield Township.

The Main 1-2 has low to medium residential density across the entire watershed with medium to heavy commercial use along Woodward, U.S. 10 and I-696. Less than 6% of the land area is wetlands and less than 10% of the land consists of woodlands and wetlands. The Main 1-2 has many parks and nature centers.

The Main 1-2 Subwatershed Group has developed a watershed management plan in accordance with the requirements of the Michigan General Storm Water Permit. For questions or further information contact Zachare Ball at zball@ectinc.com.

A Common Appendix has been developed for the subwatershed management plans. This includes detailed technical data, maps, and information best management practices for each of the seven subwatersheds.

Communities are currently working on their Storm Water Pollution Prevention Initiative (SWPPI). Click here for guidance materials on developing the SWPPI.
