Rouge River Project Wins Superior Achievement Award
From American Academy of Environmental Engineers
The American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) has awarded
the Rouge River Project its prestigious Superior Achievement Award
in the Academy's 2002 Excellence in Environmental Engineering competition.
The award was in recognition of the projectÕs achievements since
1992. CDM was the Engineer of Record for the award.
The AAEE Excellence in Environmental Engineering Award Program
The purpose of the Academy's Excellence in Environmental Engineering
competition is to recognize and promote quality environmental engineering.
The following is AAEEÕs description of their award program:

Excellence in Environmental Engineering
The Excellence in Environmental Engineering competition singles
out those projects or programs which testify to the genius of mankind
for recognition. Its criteria define what it takes to be THE BEST:
a holistic environmental perspective; innovation; performance and
client satisfaction; and contribution to an improved quality of
life and economic efficiency.
Superior Achievement for Excellence in Environmental Engineering
is the ultimate accolade; it is awarded to the best of all entries.
Awards can be garnered in any of six categories --- Research, University
Research, Planning, Design, Operations/Management, and Small Projects
--- and are determined by an independent judging panel of nationally-recognized
experts. Grand Prizes are awarded to the best entry in each category
and the Honor Awards are provided to other projects meriting recognition
consistent with the competition rules.
The competition is open to all companies, agencies, institutions,
and individuals. The individual in responsible charge of the engineering
effort entered must be a licensed professional engineer.
Each entry is evaluated by an independent panel of judges based
on the following criteria:
- Demonstration of a comprehensive, integrated approach that considers
all environmental media, i.e., air, water, and land.
- Quality as evidenced by the degree of user satisfaction and
proven performance.
- Originality and innovation, representing the application of
new knowledge, a new application of existing knowledge, or an
innovative mix of existing knowledge.
- The complexity of the problem or situation addressed.
- The extent to which the project contributes to or offers the
prospect of contributing to social and economic advancement.
The American Academy of Environmental Engineers
The AAEE is a group of highly qualified professional engineers who
are dedicated to excellence in the practice of environmental engineering
to ensure the public health, safety, and welfare to enable humankind
to co-exist in harmony with nature. The AAEE works to improve the
environmental engineering practice, elevating the standards and
advancing the cause of environmental engineering. Each Diplomate,
or member, has not only the standard prerequisites for specialty
engineering certification, but also has passed a written and oral
testing procedure by an admission panel of the Academy. The Academy's
certification program is accredited by the Council of Engineering
and Scientific Specialty Boards.
The Academy is an active participant in the accreditation of environmental
engineering curricula. Through this process, the Academy ensures
that educational standards are responsive to the needs of the professional;
and, that tomorrow's engineers will meet the needs of the profession.
The Academy further organizes multi-disciplinary teams of Diplomates
to participate in concept study groups. These groups seek solutions
to major environmental problems. Once developed, the Academy provides
these solutions to key policy makers in industry and government.
