Streambank Stabilization

Project: Quail Ridge Drain Improvements (IIA-09)
Project #: IIA-09
Lead Agency: Northville Township
Status: Complete

Project Description:Increased imperviousness within the Rouge River watershed has resulted in an increase in runoff and bank full events within the stream, causing channel incision and channel bank failure. Proposed improvements include measures to reduce peak velocities and reinforce existing stream banks using vegetative bioengineering and geo-bioengineering techniques. Flows within the Quail Ridge Drain ultimately discharge to the Middle Rouge River

Demonstration Aspect:Reducing sediment suspension and transport within the Quail Ridge Drain will reduce sediment loading to the Middle Rouge River, enhancing downstream water quality. The primary goals of the Quail Ridge Drain Improvements project are to: 1) Reduce sediment transport to downstream waterways, including Swan Harbour Lake and the Middle Rouge River. 2) Protect existing property and habitat within Quail Ridge Subdivision from rapidly eroding stream banks. 3) Protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents of this area.
