Nonpoint Source Pollution

Stormwater Detention Pond

Monitoring is used to evaluate how various best management practices (BMPs) perform for storm water control. The BMPs tested by the RPO include structural (grassy swales, detention ponds, in-line filters, sand filters), wetlands (existing, enhanced, constructed), and source control (industrial/ commercial and residential). Monitoring is performed at the inlet and outlet of the structure, before and after implementation of the program. Treatment performance is based on differences found in the concentration or loading of various pollutants. Procedures have been established for performing these field studies and interpreting the results.
