West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve

The West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve is a 162-acre preserve, just south of Pontiac Trail in West Bloomfield Township with an entrance and parking on Arrowhead Road. The preserve has two trails one is 2.1 miles in length traversing this environmentally sensitive area. The other trail is a half mile segment especially designed for the physically challenged. The Franklin River, a branch of the Rouge, flows through the woods. A self-guided brochure designates sixteen points of interest along the trail describing the flora and fauna that call the preserve home. Included in the over 100 species found there are the Great Blue Heron and the endangered blue-spotted salamander. In addition, five nature interpretive exhibits help to heighten awareness of the significance of natural and historical areas and add educational value to a walk in the woods. For group tours or for additional information, please call West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation at (248) 738-2500.
